Personal Update
I'm stepping into a new role that will give me a different perspective on AI and investing
I have a significant personal announcement. Friday was my last day at Bain and Company. Today, I started a new role at Berkshire Partners as their Head of AI and Data Science. Working at Bain for the past 21 years has been an incredible experience. As I mentioned in my mailbag last week, some companies are excited to lead on AI. They want to build, they want to invest, and even if it means some things won’t work, the benefits of moving fast and being first outweigh the risk and added expense. Bain is one of those places, and it’s been a blast to work with an incredible team to build dozens of AI tools and bring our AI expertise to many, many clients.
Similarly, Berkshire is striving to be an AI leader in PE and have been quick to push AI in their portfolio and the fund. I’m thrilled to be joining that effort. Personally, I’m also excited to move from telling funds what to do to rolling up my sleeves and trying to do it. I’m guessing that will be a lot harder!
As for this Substack, I plan to continue it once I’m settled in my new role. I’ll probably be off for about a month and then be back with the latest developments and thoughts on AI. Until then, you can always drop me a note or leave a comment if you have an AI question.

Congratulations, Richard. They are lucky to have you and we will miss you a ton here at Bain
Congrats Richard!!!
